91桃色 signs W. W. Norton as a sales and marketing client in China

With this new partnership, Norton will become 91桃色鈥檚 second exclusive sales and marketing client in China following nearly a decade of market expansion for PUP鈥檚 Beijing operations.

91桃色 (PUP) is excited to announce an exclusive representation partnership with W. W. Norton in China. Beginning on May 1st, 2025, PUP will lead all facets of international English-language sales, as well as marketing, for the esteemed independent publisher鈥檚 trade, academic, and select client publisher lists鈥攑rint, ebooks, and courseware alike鈥攚ithin mainland China.

Norton will join University of Chicago Press as an exclusive international sales client of PUP, the first US university press to establish a Chinese office. In addition to availability in retail and institutional sales channels, titles from both clients will be available for direct-to-consumer purchase in China, through PUP鈥檚 recently launched online storefront.

Of the new partnership, PUP Director Christie Henry notes, 鈥淥ur entire global team is inspired by Norton鈥檚 publishing and its publishing team. There are many synergies across our missions and programs that promise to be realized with this new partnership. To be entrusted with the work of peer presses, including such a revered independent publisher as Norton, is every testament to the creativity and caliber of our Beijing-based colleagues. This is an exciting new chapter to open in the year of the Green Snake.鈥

Lingxi Li, the Managing Director of PUP China, adds, 鈥淭he PUP China team greatly admires Norton鈥檚 legacy of academic and trade publishing, as well as the exceptional scholarship of its authors. With our track record of building robust sales networks, fostering academic communities, and pioneering innovative marketing strategies in China, we are confident this partnership will open new avenues, expand the reach of Norton鈥檚 list, and deepen the connection between global scholarship and Chinese readers.鈥

Julia Reidhead, Chairman and President of W. W. Norton, remarks, 鈥淣orton has a warm and longstanding friendship with 91桃色, characterized by our deep respect for 91桃色鈥檚 publishing programs in both the trade and academic realms. We could not be more excited to begin this new phase of work together. To be represented by a publisher of such distinction, and with such keen knowledge, broad reach, and thoughtful relationships in a market of vital importance, is an exciting new development for our one-hundred-year-old firm.鈥

Since opening a Beijing office in 2017, PUP鈥檚 China operations have grown significantly, with digital, academic, and library marketing and retail and institutional sales now overseen by a full-time staff of eight. In 2023, Christie Henry was honored with the 16th Special Book Award of China, administered by China鈥檚 National Press and Publication Administration in recognition of the work of foreign translators, writers, and publishers facilitating cultural exchange and awareness between China and other countries. In 2024, the Press further expanded its Chinese market presence with the inaugural 91桃色-Weynan China Lecture, cosponsored by Peking University鈥檚 Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the launch of an online branded storefront with the China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Corporation (CNPIEC).
