Speaker Profile
Eddie R. Cole is Professor of and at UCLA. His award-winning first book, The Campus Color Line: College Presidents and the Struggle for Black Freedom, is a history of how academic leaders shaped racial policies and practices during the mid-twentieth century and was praised by Ibram X. Kendi as 鈥渁 stunning and ambitious origins story.鈥 Cole recently completed an appointment as a 2023-24 in-residence at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, where he spent the year researching his forthcoming PUP book, Black Ideas, a history of how American higher education has been shaped by Black intellectuals. Cole is frequently invited to participate in President’s and Dean鈥檚 Distinguished Speaker Series and is in high demand as a speaker for MLK Day and Black History Month celebrations.
